Vector Solutions has an exciting opportunity in our Cloud Infrastructure team supporting and growing our business.  You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, Performance and security to our customers.

 

The Linux Cloud Operations Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems, software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling customers, staff, and partners.  The Linux Cloud Operations Engineer plays an active role in monitoring and maintaining Vector Solutions’ products.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and support production and non-production servers within AWS
  • Lead server-related maintenance such as patching, account maintenance, backups, and security
    permissions
  •  Monitor server security, perform routine security assessments, and manage software update
    services
  • Daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources,
    systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of
    scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Triage and resolve Production incidents related to the cloud platform and the applications that
    run there
  • Participate in root cause analysis and post mortem discussions
  • Build effective monitoring, alerts, and metrics for production services and applications
  • Ensure system scalability, redundancy, and failover mechanisms are working and tested
  • Provide support for application deployments

  • Provide support to Development and QA teams around automation and CI/CD pipeline
  • Provide support for application deployments
  • Provide assistance in maintaining compliance with password resets, access reviews, remediation
    of Operational Incidents
  • Develop and document processes to support ongoing development, change control, and
    production maintenance
  • Participate in regular 24x7 on-call rotation

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience maintaining complex, secure multi-tier, multi-node web/application/database systems in AWS
  • 5+ years Linux System Administration experience
  • Experience administering scalable, stateless web or application server groups/farms, especially running Apache, Tomcat, IIS, Nginx, and application code in Perl, Python, or Ruby
  • Solid knowledge of AWS platform: EC2, ASG, AMI, & EBS; Some knowledge of other key services such as: ALB, VPC, S3, AWS CLI; Desirable includes: KMS/Encryption, IAM, ACM, Aurora/RDS, CloudWatch, Route53, CloudFormation, Opsworks, CloudTrail
  • Hands on experience in AWS provisioning of systems, securing of VPCs, implementation of Security Groups, Identity and Access Management, Backups, Restore and Disaster Recovery
  • Experience deploying Infrastructure as Code using configuration orchestration tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience with Git (command-line) and services such as, Bitbucket or GitHub
  • Experience with system health and performance monitoring tools (CloudWatch, SolarWinds, Nagios, SumoLogic, Splunk)
  • Networking experience including IP routing or VPC routing, VPC Security Groups, DNS (especially BIND/named), load balancing, certificate management;  Desirable includes: OpenVPN, firewalls, IPsec, VPN, DHCP, network protocol knowledge
  • Some programming / scripting experience: (Java,BASH/Bourne/Korn Shell, Perl, Ruby, Python, bash); understanding of Linux at the C level desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related technical field or equivalent experience in a technical position
  • Desire and ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
  • Windows System Administration experience
  • Experience writing SQL queries
  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using configuration orchestration tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Chef, or Puppet
  • Familiarity with MySQL, MariaDB and/or PostgreSQL (Aurora, RDS, or native)
